KEN MATTHEWS pulls out of 2008 presidential race
DAVE MATTHEWS and CHRIS MATTHEWS...both have more name recognition than Ken Matthews right now...especially in the primary states. That, along with the fact that Matthews(Ken) is in the middle of his Bookless Book Tour is among the reasons he cited for setting his sights on a future race. "This past year has been a crazy yet rewarding one"
"I promised my wife I would clean the basement, and do some other things around the house. Plus my oldest starts T-ball, and his 3rd year of soccer, and our youngest just started swimming. Regarding the presidency, I'd like to get some more experience under my belt and 47 million dollars- for campaign stuff. Timing is everything."
Matthews said he will continue with his professional speaking career and a variety of other community projects that will not interfere with him making pancakes for his wife and kids- including Chairing the 2008 BOWL FOR KIDS SAKE March 2, at Jordon Lanes Allentown.

SNOWY SNOWERTON
Please let it snow for real ! As I write this some dooder just blew down my street in Center Valley PA on his snow mobile-probably kickin' up more gravel and mud than snow...in the massive 2 inches that have fallen so far...Can't blame 'em....he better get as much...wait a minute- IT'S AL GORE ! stinkin global warning.
I miss the Blizzards of the 90's. On the East side of Allentown where sometimes they would only plow as far as Union or Hanover...from there...you were on your own. My entire car was covered. Turf wars over curbside parking spaces. YES ! THAT'S SNOW ! We had to stay at the Hotel next to B104 Radio (where I anchored OPERATION SNOWFLAKE for 15 years ) so we could read the 300+ cancelations all morning long over and over and ...you get it. Advertisors pay to sponsor that...I'm serious. I saw the order forms. Those were the days..before the Governor ran out of salt and got us on the weather channel..with 6 major roads locked down for 2 days..of course now we have enought salt for New Jersey where they use cinder or is it beachfront sand?......
Now, like a lot of you, I'm on the web, at the moment WFMZ TV's site(look -it's Rob Vaughn !)...looking for my kids' school Cancelations...DELAYS ARE A BIG DRAG!...and hoping we get deep wet thick SNOW to build SNOW FORTS , so we can snow-shoe and of course build cheesey snow men with WACKY eyeballs and stick limbs.
For the hand full of decent real snows we did get recently, I was fortunate enough to have my neighbor there with his snowblower.....That's the cool thing about Snowblower guys..
especially around here...When it snows -they can't get enough...especially if they have a MEATY MANLY BOSS BLOWER WITH THE ENCLOSED COCKPIT AND GUNPORT.
The snowmobile dood just blew by again.....use it or lose it buddy....Your wife's gonna make you sell it anyway.... besides-it looks ridiculous next to the boat in the back yard. But at least PA gets enough Water storms for your boat......
I never want to see a boat dood cruisin' down my street in his boat.........
it's been 17 months since I've had to get up at 3:30 am.........and I have to admit........The sleeping in thing IS cool.

Whoever is elected President of the United States should have to adopt Britney Spears. Then there should be a press black out on her. She's in trouble. And the press gives her more coverage than the economy, the war, terrorism and immigration combined.
SHE IS TREATED LIKE A NATIONAL CRISIS....SHE IS -TRAGICALLY A GIRL(WOMAN) IN CRISIS. I hope she get's help soon..before my TV EXPLODES.

STOP
What does STOP mean to you ?Does it depend what you're doing? Does it depend who says it? Where it's written. I guess it's a good thing people don't base our understanding of the language on our ability to STOP when it says so. Does it depend on the time of day. Who's watching?
When I was in middle school a woman ran a stop sign and hit my friend on his bike. It was our favorite hill....which led to our favorite intersection.We made the mistake that day of assuming that STOP meant STOP and that she would stop- We could read. And she was a grown up- that could drive and the sign was RED. Even if she didn't see us , we knew we could fly on our bikes because opposing traffic had to stop. I hated that woman. I thought she was selfish and too much in a hurry to obey the law and to have cared about my friend on his blue bike with the white bananna seat in 1972. She didn't care how fast she drove her white station wagon with the fake wood on the side and obviously she was way too important to STOP. I pretty much feel the same way about her today. I think STOPPING is probably one of the easiest parts of the driving test and the STOP sign is the easiest one to recognize and remember. I memorized stop back when I was 3 or 4. ...I was only driving a Big Wheel back then.
Red lights are much more complicated.......because they CHANGE COLOR...................and that really confuses some people -especially important people who are in a hurry

My wife was UP IN MY GRILL
My wife is the best cook I know. I mean...good stuff. fills the house and kitchen with those great aromas that you would pay a fortune for in any major city restaurant. And she has a great presentation also... stay focused on the food now. I'm a grill man. I think that men- ALL men should know certain things about grills. How to light them. Maintain them. Keep them from exploding. And of course cook MEAT ON THEM. LOTS OF RED MEAT. Of course white meat is cool, veggies and or fish, But a man should know how to throw a slab of animal on that HOT IRON OR STAINLESS ! And cook to order. Feel me? I have an average grill. Nothin' fancy...but I can work it. Ask my 3 friends....There's one guy I used to work with that still says that my steak was the greatest meal he ever tasted. Of course..I'd like to thank the Cow, The butcher and my wife's marinade.
TRAGEDY STRUCK LAST NIGHT........As I was scraping my dish to put in the dishwasher ...something that took 15 years for me to learn. I looked out onto the deck to notice that my wife...did a very UN-MANLY...HORRIFYING THING.....SHE LEFT MY GRILL TOP OPEN.....
I began to shake as I discoverd it had been that way for TWO DAYS.....1/2 that time it's been raining !!!!! INTO MY GRILL ! She had cooked chicken...one of the other "white meats" 2 days ago and believes that one must leave the top OPEN so the grill can cool ? WHY !!!!?????
NO one will be playing on it. It's a grill. USE it, Clean it, Secure it. NOW I KNOW WHY THE INTERNAL WORKINGs ARE RUSTED......and she tells me......"that was a good steak but I think you could of cooked it a little more evenly"
MAYBE IF I WAS USING FULL BURNERS INSTEAD OF A HOT BATHTUB WITH A GRATE OVER IT........................
She then tells me ...she always leaves it open.......AFTER SHE'S DONE......................

OPEN LETTER TO IRANIAN NAVY
AHOY Mates,
ARE YOU ON CRACK ? YOU ALL BETTA SIMMAH DOWN NUH !
Do you have any idea how lucky you were that President Cowboy(Bush) didn't let just one of those US NAVY Ships unleash 1/10th of their port side FIRE POWER ? WHAT WERE YOU
THINKING. The US Navy is 2nd to none and like the rest of our military...they are being held back... by a variety of things. We all know it's very complicated....There is a reason the US military patrols and probes instead of carpet bombs everything in it's path without regard.
There is a reason there are thick manuals about U.S. rules of engagement, and respecting the customs of other nations.There are reasons we use smart bombs and send real live humans in to make sure the bad guys are actually there before we would intentially destroy things we don't have to. There are reasons that OUR Military is trained to build stuff and educate people and not just BLOW stuff up. There are reasons that the female soldiers in our squads have the additional responsiblity of searching women in operational areas out of respect for their customs and culture because our men have been told they cannot touch them. There are reasons the US Military is doing everything possible to contain and eliminate terror rather than create more. In addition to following orders, I believe these men & women CARE about America, they care about their impact on the world and they care about their fellow soldiers ,sailors and airmen. That said. My message to the IRANIAN NAVY(anyone for that matter) would be:
Don't believe everything you here on your 2-way radios.....WE'RE BEHIND OUR TROOPS.
And the only reason U.S. TROOPS haven't kicked EVERY ass that's engaged them is because THEY FOLLOW ORDERS and stand down went they're told to. I don't know how these brave men and women stay as focused as they do
but that's why they are the BEST AND THIS COUNTRY IS SAFE.
Now go back to port...and be glad the US Coast Guard didn't have to rescue you.....and you know they would of...if ordered to.

McDonalds battles Starbucks ......weeth Bareestas
McDonalds will add a BILLION bucks to it's 21 Billion dollars a year with more expresso based drinks and real Baristas to go after the expresso people's market.
Starbucks ( whose shares have fallen 48% in the past 12 months) will counter attack by adding to it's menu: GREASE, SAUCE, SALADS IN PLASTIC CUPS and outside: a curvier drive thru curb that scrapes your rims.

Stop ! Drop ! and BOWL ! ...FOR KIDS SAKE !
It's Bowl-a-licious ! Don't forget Sunday March 2 at Jordon Lanes. I was bowling a month ago. I'm bad !
But I forgot how much FUN it is ..and my sons loved it ! Chase, our 3-year old uses the BALL RAMP.....(I think some people would actually merge better onto Rt.22 if they used one)...anyway,
I started to use the "BALL RAMP"- THAT'S WHAT I CALL IT....and my game actually improved....

HAPPY NEW YEAR PERKINS...SORRY I'M LATE
The wife & kids and I just got back from Maine last night.....-17 windchill when we left. but warmer during the trip made for some great snow shoe-ing. Two feet of snow...and yes the roads were clear. Today, I went to pick up my new glasses in Bethlehem-they rock!....on my way I saw(clearly) that the Perkins at Lehigh Center-near the Allentown border, for those who don't know that area, is closed. In the window it read: RESERVE YOUR TINS & BASKETS NOW. Bummer. I remember that Perkins from when I lived on the east side of Allentown 1991-1998 and others remember it from earlier. I had been to the Perkins in Easton only a few times. I'm surprised at the closing in Bethlehem because of the growth and size of that "little" mall and Lowes sorta around the corner on 378. You've got Dan Schantz, Marshalls, RiteAid,
Hollywood Video..the refurbished GIANT..Don't forget Golds Gym...where you can go after you ate at Perkins.........and of course Staples...directly across from the front door...perfect for me because my church is still on the east side.I watched that mall go through some growing pains over the years.
I wasn't in the room when it happened but it appears the shut down was rather abrupt at both locations. But the press reports said the employees were given the opportunity to work at other Perkins locations in the Valley.
From community comments it looks like Perkins might have a local PR or an HR problem.
(Of course it's not like they changed their name to Porkchop.)They said profits were down nationally...but no one ever says why. WAS IT THE CRANBERRY MUFFINS? OR WAS IT THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF SMOKE FREE ENVIROMENTS?
We'll never know...however....
A smart restaurant owner will swoop in to that location(s) negotiate a shorter lease, re-employ some former Perkins people and save the day.....THAT WOULD BE A PR/HR coup
